I'm hearing and reading that the Honda Forza 300 is/will soon be discontinued.
Is this fact or mere rumour?

Very likely Honda will keep the in Europe very popular Forza 300 in the line-up, but it would need to get a major update for 2018.

The current Honda Forza 300, likely, doesn’t meet the new European Euro 4 emission regulation and is currently only sold in Europe as under end-of-series regulations that expire at the end of 2018. Don’t worry, several manufacturers sell currently motorcycles in Europe using the end-of-series regulation.

So for 2018 Honda has to seriously upgrade the engine, currently the carbon monoxide emission of the Honda Forza 300 is just under 2.0g/km (grams per kilometer), and this has to drop to a maximum of 1.14g/km. Also hydrocarbon emission has to drop from around 0.3g/km to 0.17g/km and NOx need to fall from around 0.15g/km to 0.09g/km.

The Honda SH300i has already been modified (since 2016) to be compliant with the new Euro 4 emission standard, so I’m confident that Honda can do the same for the Forza 300.

Most of the time, if a manufacturer has to do a major redesign and rebuild of an engine they also change / tweak a few more specifications. Still it would be interesting to see how Honda is going to lower the exhaust emission without spending to much on the redesign.

Yamaha has selected the path of variable valve timing, which give them a clear path even with Euro 5 exhaust emission standards going to be introduced in 2020.

Why is the European exhaust emission standards so important for the Honda Forza 300 in Thailand? The Honda Forza 300 is made in Thailand and the model sold in Europe is nearly identical to the model sold in Thailand...
