Honda Increase PCX Production by 30 percent

Motorcycle NewsHonda Motor Co. Ltd has decided to lift production of its new 125cc scooter to 60,000 units to 70,000 units yearly, 30 per cent more than planned.

The PCX is a global strategic product for Honda and sales have been better than expected in Japan, Europe, the U.S., Vietnam and the other markets where the scooter has been released. By manufacturing the scooter in Thailand and mostly using locally made parts and materials, Honda has been able to price the scooter competitively.

Honda's Bangkok subsidiary, Thai Honda Manufacturing Co., is responsible for the entire output of the PCX, but the factory it operates does not have a dedicated line for the scooter. In order to boost production of the PCX without interfering with the output of other products, the factory will extend its hours of overtime operation.

Honda eventually plans to introduce more than 10 different global strategic motorcycles which, like the PCX, can be sold in many different markets worldwide.
